How to Make a Puppy Go to Sleep!

When it comes to caring for your pet dog, one of the most important aspects is that it gets enough sleep. Just like humans, dogs need to recharge. If they are unable to do so, then it can affect them in their day-to-day life.

This is not to say that puppies make such a task straightforward. Just like children, puppies are often mischievous and aren’t very responsive to commands. However, there are some ways you can ensure that your puppy has a good night’s sleep, ensuring that they’re in the best of health.

Ensure Your Dog Has a Comfortable Sleeping Environment

While it’s a safe bet that your dog will settle anywhere, they will be less restless if they have a dedicated space for when they sleep. Ensure Your Dog Receives Plenty of Exercise

One of the reasons puppies may not sleep during the evening, is because they don’t use up enough energy in the day. While this may be hard to believe, it’s worth remembering that each dog has its own personality, and some puppies just aren’t as active as others.

Ensuring your dog has regular walks not only ensures that your dog is at its best, but it will also look to build a stronger bond between you and your pet.

Consider Visiting a Vet

Evidently, there are times when a change of routine just isn’t enough. If the reason your dog is restless is due to a medical condition, then an owner can do very little other than visit their local vet. While many don’t want to believe their companion could be ill, it’s better to face the reality so a remedy can be sought.

Pointers for visiting a vet is if your dog normally sleeps well but has suddenly become restless, or you have tried to instil other tactics to no avail.

Let a Puppy Adjust

In some instances, a puppy may have been brought to a new household. As such, it is unaware of its surroundings and is therefore understandably nervous. Once of the traits of a nervous puppy is that it often finds it difficult to settle. This should be expected for the first three to five days.

However, if you feel enough time has passed and there is still a problem, then it can be a good idea to visit the vet to eliminate any concerns. They can also offer some robust puppy care information to ensure that you know what to do in particular sets of circumstances.

Having a puppy that won’t sleep can seem stressful, but with the right approach and thought process, it soon becomes second nature. Once you have got to know your dog, and it has become comfortable with its surroundings, you will find that both you and your dog are able to fully relax.

My puppy was very lackadaisical during the day so I wouldn’t take her on walks, but then when nighttime rolled around she would be a ball of energy. It was tough to change her schedule, but by taking her on walks during the day, regardless or her apparent energy level, I was able to get her sleeping through the night!

We got a little baby chihuahua almost a year and a half ago. When we bought him, he was in really bad shape. It was sad. He wouldn’t sleep and cried all night long. We took him to the vet and found out that the person we bought him from kept him in very poor conditions. After a lot of personal care and love, though, he’s improved by leaps and bounds. He now has a doggy bed and we’ve made something like a sleeping bag for him. He won’t sleep without it! Sometimes it just takes a little love.
