Our loyal pets deserve our best efforts in providing them comfort and care, and few items compare to a soft, luxurious Serta dog bed for the times when your canine companion wants to have a good lie-down. Whether he’s a healthy pup, or she is an older veteran with bones and joints that ache sometimes, a comfortable dog bed is a refuge like no other when your dog wants to curl up and catch a little doggy shuteye.

What Is a Serta Dog Bed?

For the purposes of this review, we focused on one specific model of Serta dog bed: the Serta Ortho quilted pillowtop pet bed. All dog beds are not created equal, and some models (like the Serta dog bed we’ll be looking very closely at here) come with features and additions that a simple cushion or plain pet bed does not have. The Serta dog bed we’re examining is packed full of useful and comfortable features that both you and your canine friend are sure to appreciate.

Product Specs

This Serta Ortho bed is a high-quality bed inside and out. Covered in removable, machine-washable, upholstery-grade fabric and filled with the highest-quality orthopedic foam, it can effectively relieve pressure on achy joints. This Serta dog bed promises to provide years of comfort and rest to your furry little friend.

The foam used in this model is not just designed to provide a soft place to rest. Assembling these units entirely in the U.S.A. with 100% CertiPur foam, Serta uses a design approach that guards against harmful impurities or contaminants that can cause allergic reactions in some pets. Available in either a large (36″ x 27″) or extra-large (47″ x 39″) size, this Serta dog bed is a plush 4 inches thick, which is perfect for dogs who like to stretch out and sprawl when it’s naptime.

Pricing

Perhaps one of the best features of this Serta dog bed is the price. The large version will only set you back about $50, and even the extra-large was available for under $100 when we performed our research. Prices do fluctuate from time to time, and online coupons or discounts are occasionally available, so it’s always a good idea to a bit of homework just before you purchase.

Price

The Serta Dog Bed can be purchased via Amazon which (as we’ll see) is a great value for this product.

Ease of Use

The upholstery-quality outer layer makes easy work out of cleaning up most stains or spills; they can be wiped away with a damp cloth. For more serious soiling, or when it’s just time to freshen the bed, the entire cover can be removed and machine washed, which is an excellent feature.

Comfort

The orthopedic CertiPur foam designed into this Serta dog bed has been specially designed to be soft enough for dogs with problems like hip dysplasia, yet also firm enough to stand up to the weight of a larger dog.

Design Quality

This bed’s square design is sure to fit well in just about any corner of your home, and it is available in a range of colors.

Size Options

Although the large and extra-large sizes are the only two options available, they’re great for medium to large breeds. Smaller dogs will have room to roll around in comfort or share their space with a friend or two if they’re sociable.

Pros

  • Upholstery-grade outer fabric
  • Orthopedic CertiPur foam filling
  • Low price

Cons

  • Only available in two sizes

This pet bed is available in five sizes, from the small (28″ x 19″) model all the way up to the XXL, 54″ x 36″ size. It’s topped in gray faux fur with plush, microfiber suede-like sides, and it has a waterproof protective inner cover. This bed features a six-inch layer of foam that combines 4″ of high-stability base foam with 2″ of high-density memory foam.

The outer and inner covers are both removable, but they should be hand washed or washed in a machine only on the gentle cycle setting. The memory foam topper is perfect for dogs suffering from hip dysplasia, arthritis, muscle stiffness, or occasional aching joints, and this product is sure to provide a comfortable and luxurious spot for your pet to rest.

Price

The five different sizes of this bed vary in price from around $60 on the low end to right around $180 for the XXL version. That pricing is quite a bit above that of the Serta dog bed, but the extras noted here may well justify the higher price.

Ease of Use

The removable outer and inner protective sleeves are a nice touch, but hand washing or gentle-cycle washing may not be the most convenient methods of care. Still, this is not at all a deal breaker for anyone considering this high-quality bed.

Comfort

With 4″ of base foam and 2″ of orthopedic memory foam topping this pet bed, it may be your dog’s favorite spot, as it’s likely to be nearly as comfortable as even your own sofa or bed.

Design Quality

Like the Serta dog bed, this pet bed is square and will fit neatly in any convenient corner, and the faux fur and waterproof liners are nice touches.

Size Options

With five options ranging from small to XXL, this pet bed is sure to come in a size perfect for your pet, regardless of whether she’s a lapdog or, like many larger dogs, just thinks she is.

Pros

  • Outer and inner liners are waterproof
  • Five size options
  • 2-inch-thick memory foam topper

Cons

  • A little pricey compared to the Serta dog bed
  • Must be washed delicately

This model, like the Serta dog bed, comes with 4″ of high-density foam topped with support bolsters that go around 3/4ths of the bed’s top. The poly-cotton twill cover is removable and machine-washable, water- and tear-resistant, and it comes in three colors: slate, chocolate, and sandstone. The sandstone version also has a plush topper for added comfort. We liked that replacement covers are available separately, and also that all these PetFusion covers feature non-skid rubber bottoms. This bed is available in four sizes, from small (25″ x 20″), all the way up to XXL Jumbo (50″ x 40″).

Price

The small version of this bed will run you approximately $70, while the XXL Jumbo tops out the price range at around $240, which is significantly more expensive than the Serta dog bed, for example. In our view, many pet owners may find that the added cosmetic features make that cost more than worth it.

Ease of Use

Though the cover is removable and machine washable, getting the cover off of (and then back on!) the bolster could prove to be a little fussy.

Comfort

Like the Serta dog bed, this model features 4 inches of high-density foam, but it doesn’t match all the specifications of that Serta product. Still, for most breeds (especially dogs that don’t suffer from joint pain), it should be more than sufficient.

Design Quality

While the bolster look may not be for everyone, it is a nice option for those who appreciate a dog bed that looks less like a square box on the floor and more like a piece of furniture that blends in with your home decor and accommodations.

Size Options

With four available sizes, you’re sure to find a model here to fit your furry pal perfectly, or you can opt for the XXL Jumbo model simply to make your pet feel like the king or queen of its own castle.

Pros

  • Bolster design style is an attractive option
  • Available in the rather large XXL Jumbo size

Cons

  • Removing and replacing the external cover may be a little fussy
  • Pricier than some other options

This model, like the Serta dog bed, comes with 4″ of high-density foam topped with support bolsters that go around 3/4ths of the bed’s top. The poly-cotton twill cover is removable and machine-washable, water- and tear-resistant, and it comes in three colors: slate, chocolate, and sandstone. This bed is available in four sizes, from small (25″ x 20″), all the way up to XXL Jumbo (50″ x 40″).

Price

The small (20″ x 25″) model will set you back right around $70, while the Jumbo model (40″ x 50″) runs approximately $240. That is certainly not the cheapest option on our list, but the additional cosmetic touches could make this bolster-design pet bed well worth it if that’s a chief concern for you.

Ease of Use

As with the PetFusion model discussed above, we must note that removing and replacing the cover will take a little maneuvering and tweaking to get it to sit right on the bolster, but it certainly isn’t a deal breaker.

Comfort

We’re not certain what human-grade mattress foam is, but this model has a somewhat thicker base than every other pet bed we’ve surveyed, and it is sure to be a comfort to your four-legged friend.

Design Quality

Much like the other bolster-design bed we are considering here, our reviewers judged that this model pet bed is arguably more attractive than the more basic flat, square models. The bolster design adds style, but it does not necessarily improve practicality or comfort in any way, however. This pet bed gains points by being the only one we’ve reviewed that’s backed by a 100% satisfaction-guaranteed, one-year limited warranty.

Size Options

This pet bed comes in four size options, and you’re sure to be able to find a model that will fit your furry companion, whether he or she is “jumbo” in size or much smaller.

Pros

  • Bolster-style pet bed
  • Removable, machine-washable cover
  • 1-year limited warranty

Cons

  • Replacing the cover after washing may require a little extra effort
  • Pricier than some other models reviewed here

Conclusion

While all the pet beds reviewed here have something unique going for them, whether it be a nice memory foam topper, a bolster design, or “human-grade” mattress foam, we strive to conduct a review process that yields one clear winner. To that end, we’ve compared all four models and carefully considered their most notable pros and cons, features, price, and other considerations (like that great warranty on the Friends Forever orthopedic bed). The bolster designs are considered more attractive by many pet owners, but they generally require more labor when it’s time to wash the cover. The more basic, flat designs, while more utilitarian, are rectangular and should fit perfectly in a quiet corner of your kitchen, living room, or bedroom. The color options are nice to have but anyone with a long-haired breed knows that, soon enough, even the most fur-resistant dog bed is going to be pooch-colored. With all that said, we’ve decided that the best value… the product offering the most bark for your buck… is definitely the Serta dog bed, which we’ve awarded a solid four out of five possible stars.
